Position – Lights should be sited where they are inaccessible from the ground (anti tamper), power cabling should be protected, either out of sight/inaccessible or protected within an armour conduit. They should cover the entire perimeter of the building you are choosing to protect, especially doorways and any recessed area which would provide sanctuary for an intruder to hide. Care should be taken however, to make sure the light does not become a burden and cause a nuisance to either yourself, when inside, or to your neighbours. Your attention should also be drawn to any legislation that may affect the use of such lighting eg in the United Kingdom there is the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 which makes any exterior lighting that is prejudicial to the health or is a nuisance to others, a criminal offence.
